The disappointment room

Soon she finds the keys and is haunted by the evil spirit of an old man. She researches and learns that old rural houses had disappointments rooms where disabled children were locked to avoid embarrassment to the traditional families. But the past keeps coming back.


A fast-pace exciting read infused with the Gullah culture, voodoo, slavery, and the politics of the antebellum and contemporary South. There is a door knob on only the outside and also a deadbolt, making it nearly impossible for anyone to get out of the room. When Dana discovers a small mysterious locked room in the attic, things begin to go bump-in-the-night and Dana begins to doubt her sanity.

I was left disappointed by the gaps in the storyline that needed fleshing out. Scenes of bloody violence include characters being bashed and covered in bloo children dying (a baby is tragically, accidentally killed) and in danger, a mangled cat corpse, a dog attacking a boy, and other shocking images. Nothing happens in this film. A family moves into a haunted house out in the country.


A mother and her young son release unimaginable horrors from the attic of their rural dream home. Interrupted Suicide: A flashback shows that Dana attempted to slit her wrists after the death. The Disappointments Room.


His first screenwriting credit was Park Chan-wook’s Stoker.

That story is a little muddle. He also he killed his son Toshio and his cat Mar. Kate Beckinsale’s brief return to classy film fare with last spring’s hit Love. A curse fell upon the house and anyone who lives or enters into the house will eventually fall victim to Kayako and Toshio.

In hopes of having a fresh start, Dana and David move into a rural home with their son. However, in this film based on true events, the discovery of a secret room in the attic unleashes past horrors. She goes up the endless circular staircase to the attic and finds a chifferobe in front of a wall where the mysterious room should exist. She opens the chifferobe and out fly bats. It just seems like a by-the-numbers movie with all the normal cliches.
