In electrical engineering , a hazardous area (also known as a potentially explosive atmosphere) is defined as an environment that consists of any concentrations of flammable gases , vapors , mists or combustible dusts. Though the goal of all hazardous area equipment is to prevent an explosion, the methods that they use vary depending on their manufacture and intended application. Classification -IEC and ATEX Standards.
In such an atmosphere a fire or explosion is possible when three basic conditions are met. Three main subdivisions exist: Zone is that part of hazardous area in which a flammable atmosphere is continuously present. Zone is that part of a hazardous area in which flammable atmosphere is likely to occur in normal. Zone is that part of a hazardous area in which flammable. The hazardous room is either protected with 1-hour barriers, or it is protected with sprinklers.
A fire and explosion can end up with devastating consequences, resulting in serious injuries or death of employees and others, as well as considerable damage to property. Hazardous Areas and Basic Risk Control Measures. Electrical equipment in hazardous areas is a critical part of the some of the industries most valuable sites and assets.

Zone - An area in which combustible dust, as a clou is occasionally present during normal operation in sufficient quantity to be capable of producing an explosive concentration of combustible dust in a mixture with air.
Zone - An area in which combustible dust, as a clou. Production facilities contain, or may contain, flammable gases and vapors in normal operations. In the right concentration with air, these can form an explosive environment that is ignitable by hot surfaces, electrical arcs, and sparks.
To prevent this from happening,. So while a Zone certified device can be used safely in either Zone or it cannot be taken into a Zone area.
