What is fire extinguisher

A fire extinguisher is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires, often in emergency situations. What is the proper use of a fire extinguisher? What are the most commonly used fire extinguishers?


What type of fire extinguisher is used for kitchen? These are kept handy at places, namely fire points, in buildings, factories, public paces or transportation.

A carbon dioxide fire extinguisher (CO2) is one of the cleanest types of extinguishers to use as it leaves no residue and requires no cleanup. The COextinguisher does exactly that – extinguishes CO2. By doing so, it removes oxygen from the fire, effectively suffocating it of oxygen.


Dry Chemical fire extinguishers extinguish the fire primarily by interrupting the chemical reaction of the fire triangle. Every fire extinguisher has a pin inserted into the handle that prevents the fire extinguisher from being discharged by accident. Grab the ring and pull the pin out from the side of the handle.

Water fire extinguishers are suitable for use in environments containing solid combustible materials such as woo paper and textiles. It is important to remember that water conducts electricity and should not be used around electrical equipment (unless water extinguishers with additive are used).
